Creative Counseling

As an artistic being myself, I’ve always been drawn to the processing and reflective powers of art. So when I began studying counseling, it was all too easy for me to know that these two things were a match made in heaven.

Many artists grow up using their art as a tool for reflection (and also escapism, but that’s okay!). Using art to process our world gives us time and space to think about how we feel about things. So if that has been a practice, going into talk therapy can sometimes prove difficult for individuals who like to create as a part of their reflection practices.

I strive to create a space for individuals who may have developed these habits and also those who are just interested in trying a different approach to therapy! Using art therapeutically allows us to step back and look at what we’re sitting with from a new perspective. It can sometimes create a safe distance that allows us to look at our wounds without getting too activated.

No matter what your medium is (art is a huge umbrella) I will work with you to integrate it into your therapeutic journey. Often times it can look like bringing in music that speaks to you, poetry, writing, dreams, journaling, water color, finger paints, charcoal, even what you’re currently reading! Art can provide a beautiful bridge into our unconscious, revealing some of our more deeper desires, feelings, or dreams. I’m happy to provide a space where counseling and art work together to provide you a deeper therapeutic experience.
