Creative Awakening Counseling Services

Creative individuals deserve therapy that works with their unique way of showing up in the world. We recognize that everyone processes emotions, trauma, and life in ways that traditional talk therapy doesn't always address. Our goal is to offer an alternative, person-centered approach that helps artistic beings feel seen and safe, allowing them to process the highs and lows of life in a way that resonates with them. By honoring their creative expression, we create a space where they can heal and grow on their own terms.

Hi, I’m Katie!

I strive to be the kind of therapist who meets you where you are while gently guiding you toward where you want to be. I bring radical compassion, a good dose of humor and sarcasm (because sometimes we just have to laugh at the hard stuff), and creative approaches to help you feel more in control, aligned, and authentic. My goal is to support you in navigating this world in a way that truly makes sense for you and your lived experience.

We’re all human, and I believe in showing up that way for my clients. Life is messy, being human is weird—let’s find a way through it together.

Areas of Focus

Liberation Focused Depth Therapy

I believe growth is not a simple, easy or quick fix. I identify as a depth counselor because I specialize in doing work that is lasting. Just as our behaviors, personalities, and areas for growth took time to form, they take time to shift. I believe in radical compassion as we are all working within oppressive systems that rarely tell us taking our time is a good thing.

But when it comes to creating the masterpieces of a human you’d like to be in this world, isn’t that a work of art that deserves time and space to figure out?

I draw from psychodynamic, existential, feminist, multicultural, and expressive arts theories to support you in moving toward a life that feels freer, more authentic, and truly your own. My approach is grounded in radical compassion, recognizing that we are all navigating oppressive systems that rarely encourage us to slow down and take our time. Liberation is at the heart of my work because, for too long, we’ve been shaped by narratives about emotionality, authenticity, and productivity that were never designed for our benefit. When we begin to understand how these systems contribute to the shame we feel around our growth, unlearning becomes easier, allowing us to shift toward a more compassionate way of living.

Creative Counseling

As an artistic being myself, I’ve always been drawn to the processing and reflective powers of art. So when I began studying counseling, it was all too easy for me to know that these two things were a match made in heaven.

Many artists grow up using their art as a tool for reflection (and also escapism, but that’s okay!). Using art to process our world gives us time and space to think about how we feel about things. So if that has been a practice, going into talk therapy can sometimes prove difficult for individuals who like to create as a part of their reflection practices.

I strive to create a space for individuals who may have developed these habits and also those who are just interested in trying a different approach to therapy! Using art therapeutically allows us to step back and look at what we’re sitting with from a new perspective. It can sometimes create a safe distance that allows us to look at our wounds without getting too activated.

No matter what your medium is (art is a huge umbrella) I will work with you to integrate it into your therapeutic journey. Often times it can look like bringing in music that speaks to you, poetry, writing, dreams, journaling, water color, finger paints, charcoal, even what you’re currently reading! Art can provide a beautiful bridge into our unconscious, revealing some of our more deeper desires, feelings, or dreams. I’m happy to provide a space where counseling and art work together to provide you a deeper therapeutic experience.

Greif Counseling

The experience of loss can feel incredibly isolating in a culture that struggles to talk about it. Often, we long for the simple presence of someone who isn’t afraid of our grief—someone who won’t turn away or feel overwhelmed, as so many do.

I am not afraid of your grief.

I know your world is spinning, and everything feels surreal. How can life keep moving when it feels like yours has stopped? Why do people throw hollow clichés at you as if they could ever be enough? I know you just want to sleep and wake up when it’s all over.

Grief is sacred, even though I know it feels far from that. It is a deeply human experience. None of us will move through this life without knowing it. I am honored to walk beside you as we sift through the wreckage and take those first uncertain steps toward what comes next. Because no one should have to face grief alone.

If you’d like to integrate creative modalities into your grief work that is always available, but it is not the only way I work with grief.

If you’re someone who practices more alternative forms of spirituality (pagan, wiccan, ancestral witchcraft etc.) and are interested in integrating it into your therapy, we can do that!

Therapists have often utilized imagery decks that offer reflective practices as tools in therapy. I don’t believe oracle, tarot, or any other form of a reflective decks are different! Whatever your rituals, ancestral or cultural magic practices are, if they are important to you then they are welcomed in my practice.

There are many ways to engage in spiritual beliefs and I deeply value respecting whatever you practice, spiritual or otherwise.
